Welcome to Our Historic Upper East Side Townhouse
Nestled in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, our nearly 155-year-old Italianate-style brownstone is a labor of love that we’re thrilled to share with guests. Built in 1871, this home has been thoughtfully updated while preserving its original character. You’ll find ten (non-working) fireplaces with marble mantels, intricate plaster moldings, and even a hidden carriage house—a little secret tucked behind the main building.
Spanning five levels and approximately 6,000 square feet, the townhouse follows the European floor numbering system, where the ground floor is level “0” or “ground floor.” Here’s how the floors are labeled:
- The Parlor Floor (Parlor Studio and Garden Room) is the first floor (1 flight up).
- The Front Library and Rear Library are on the 2nd Floor (2 flights up).
- The Madison Suite is on the 3rd Floor (3 flights up).
- The Lexington Suite is on the 4th Floor (4 flights up).
Below is an overview of the uniquely styled suites and studios, all of which offer their own charm and character.
Parlor Floor
- The Garden Room
One of the most elegant spaces in the house, the Garden Room boasts 12-foot ceilings and a stunning wall of windows overlooking the carriage house. The outdoor space, with plants and a teak bench, offers a peaceful retreat rarely found in the city. Inside, the room features antique pine floors, a four-poster queen bed, and a small daybed. While this studio does not have a kitchen, it includes a small refrigerator with freezer, a compact bathroom with a shower and an in-room sink. - The Parlor Studio
Also located on the Parlor Floor, the Parlor Studio features 12-foot ceilings and three large windows overlooking East 62nd Street. The bright and airy room has a small kitchenette (no stove) for light meals and snacks, creating a cozy yet functional space.
2nd Floor
- The Front Library
Overlooking East 62nd Street, the Front Library offers inspiring treetop views of Victorian mansions and early 20th-century brownstones. This charming space includes a small fridge with freezer but does not have a kitchen. The vintage-style bathroom features a bathtub, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day exploring the city. - The Rear Library
In contrast to the Front Library, the Rear Library offers a quieter atmosphere, with views of the hidden carriage house, neighboring brownstone backyards, and distant skyscrapers. This room includes a small kitchen, ideal for preparing light meals, and a bathroom with a shower (no tub).
Full-Floor Suites
- The Madison Suite
The Madison Suite occupies an entire floor and offers a spacious layout. The back bedroom features a queen bed surrounded by pine antiques, including an Irish Linen Press. Adjacent to the bedroom is a small bonus room that can be used as a workspace or for luggage storage. The two back rooms overlook the hidden carriage house, the rear of neighboring brownstones, and distant skyscrapers. The front room serves as a spacious living area, with a daybed that can accommodate a second guest needing separate sleeping arrangements. The room overlooks East 62nd Street and is bathed in natural light. The suite also includes a kitchen with a cozy dining nook overlooking East 62nd Street. - The Lexington Suite
Another full-floor suite, the Lexington offers a thoughtful layout with two queen bedrooms. The front bedroom features a queen bed, a small sitting area with a loveseat and TV, and charming views of East 62nd Street. With no tall buildings across the way, the view feels open, bright, and airy. The back bedroom has its own queen bed and overlooks the hidden carriage house, the rear of neighboring brownstones, and distant skyscrapers. A small additional room in the back can be used as a dining space or workspace. While the suite does not have a separate living room, its layout ensures comfort and privacy.
The Location
What makes our townhouse even more special is its prime location. Just steps from Madison Avenue, you’ll have access to world-renowned boutiques, galleries, museums, and charming restaurants. The combination of quiet, tree-lined streets and nearby cultural landmarks makes this an ideal base for exploring Manhattan.
Owning and caring for this historic home has been a privilege, and we take pride in welcoming guests to experience its unique character for themselves.
