Driving Directions:
• Coming from Connecticut, Westchester or other places north of New York City: take the route of your choice to get onto FDR drive southbound. Get off FDR Drive at 63rd street exit, then drive west on 63rd street to Park Avenue. Turn left on Park Avenue then take the next left onto 62nd street, then you will find 1871 House about halfway down the block on the right side (no sign, address is 130).
• Coming from downtown New York City (including financial district, Lower East Side, SoHo, and Chinatown): find your way to the FDR drive along the east side of Manhattan. Get off FDR Drive at 63rd street exit, then drive west on 63rd street to Park Avenue. Turn left on Park Avenue then take the next left onto 62nd street, then you will find 1871 House about halfway down the block on the right side (no sign, address is 130).
• Coming from New Jersey (including Newark Airport) your best bet is usually to take the Lincoln Tunnel. From there, exit to the left toward 42 Street/Uptown/Theater District/NY-9A. Continue onto Dyer Avenue, then soon after turn left onto West 41st street. At the next intersection, turn right onto Tenth Avenue. Continue north (the avenue will become Amsterdam Avenue) and turn right onto West 65th street. Drive through the Central Park Transverse on 65th street, and then turn right onto 5th avenue immediately as you exit the park transverse. Turn left onto East 62nd street, and after you pass Park Avenue, look for 1871 House about halfway down the block on the right side (no sign, address is 130).
• Coming from the airports in Queens, or coming in from Long Island, make your way to the 59th street bridge (now called the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge). Use the lower roadway toward East 62nd St in Manhattan (look for signs to State Rte 25A E). After crossing the bridge, bear right to exit onto East 60th Street, and continue on East 60th for about three blocks. Take a right turn onto Park Avenue, and then take your second right turn onto East 62nd Street. Look for 1871 House about halfway down the block on the right side (no sign, address is 130).
1871 House is located in the Lenox Hill neighborhood of the Upper East Side and just a few minutes’ walk to Central Park and close to Madison Avenue. The above driving directions are a good general guideline, but whenever possible, we recommend utilizing a GPS navigation system that can offer alternate routes as needed, especially when traffic is congested.
